Something for the weekend!
Thank God it´s friday tomorrow, hope you all got some wild plans for the weekend, heh. I just thought I could post some tunes that could spice up your weekend, and set your mood into party gear! (Sorry, I couldn´t resist using that cheesy expression!) But anyhow, here they are:
The fourth day with The Smiths
So, we´ve come to the fourth day with The Smiths as the band of the week. This means that today´s post is going to be about their fourth, and final, studio album, Strangeways, Here We Come... Some say that it´s the weakest link in their discography and that they sound incomplete as a band. However, I personally really like Strangeways... as much as their other albums. Here´s some highlights from it:

One more day with The Smiths!
This day´s post will be dedicated to their maybe most famous, and third album, The Queen Is Dead.

The week with The Smiths continues!
Since I yesterday concentrated on their first album, today will quite naturally focus on the second, Meat Is Murder! Here´s just some tunes that never will die:

The Band Of The Week
You, my readers, are lucky today with two posts on just one day. The reason why I had to post two posts, is because from now on I try to choose a "band of the week" band every week, and concentrate as much as possible on the band in focus. I try to post at least one song everyday. This week´s band of the week will be The Smiths. If you have the chance, do buy this months MOJO Special Limited Issue with about 50 pages of just The Smiths.

Banksy
I apologize, my loyal followers, that this post has nothing to do with music, nor anything related to music. It´s about art, and especially about a certain artist, Banksy.
...but here´s some songs for you, my followers, to listen to while you admire these beautiful paintings:

Hultsfred
I´ve always been dying to go to a big festival, like Glastonbury or Roskilde or Benicassim or Hultsfred, with loooooads of great artists, so great that you just want to see them all. This year, eventhough they haven´t announced even nearly all artists, Hultsfred is pretty much as awesome as a festival can be. Here´s just some examples:

Dum Dum Girls
I´m usually not a big fan of covers, especially covers of songs that are almost perfect as it is. There are only a few covers that make right to the original song, and this is definitely one of them:

Music found on the library part 2:
Going to the library to check out records has sort of become like a hobby to me. And it´s really handy, since I don´t have to pay anything for the records, but still I get them on my iPod. Going to the library is like going to paradise, almost...!
Here´s some songs that got caught in my head while listening to the records I borrowed:

Elliott Smith
Today I logged in to facebook as i usually do when I get home. When I got in I was just skimming through all the usual, random and maybe even a bit boring status updates and other posts, blahblah, nothing interesting happens ever on facebook anyway. Just as I was about to log out I noticed that a friend of mine had posted this video that caught my attention and looked interesting enough to maybe even give a shot at. I had never heard of the artist, Elliott Smith, before, but since I heard the first notes from his acoustic guitar I was spellbound. Ofcourse I immediately had to blog about him. Here´s some of his great ones from his album Figure 8:

Gym Class Heroes
I´m sorry for not being so active lately, but I´ve just had shitloads to do this week, schoolwork coming out of my ears etc. But, we had the joy to have Gym Class Heroes playing a gig here in Helsinki on monday, and I have to say it was pretty sick! They were really wired and in good shape, and they just seemed really happy to play again. And one of the best things was the connection and interaction between the band and the crowd. We got really near the stage too, we didn´t even have to push our way through. We were actually so close to the stage that I was able to high five Travie, haha! Anyway, here´s the setlist plus some songs:

Sooo, another year has again passed by, it´s crazy how the time flies, eh? I thought I would start the new year with a new project - a blog. This blog is not about my everyday life, I bet it would be really interesting to read about it though! No, this blog is simply about music. Music is such a big part of my life, so maybe you even can see this as a lifestyle blog afterall!
My first post will be a kind of "higlights of 2011" thing. I will post my personal top-10 most interesting and mind blowing songs, acts or albums. The list isn´t in any specific order, so the first won´t be the best etc. But, I hope you´ll enjoy the music as much as I´ve done. :) 2011 has been a great year considering music, almost as good as 2010. Naturally I can´t fit all the greats in a top-10 list, but I´ll try my best.
P.S. I´m sorry for the design, it´s pretty bad, but I´m not that handy with computer stuff like this. Don´t hold it against me!
1. Cage The Elephant - Shake Me Down
My sister actually introduced this song to me, and as soon as the first notes hit me, I was completely head over heels for them.
2. The Horrors - Skying
It´s been really interesting to watch the development and "growing up" in The Horrors music. I couldn´t pick any particular song from this almost perfect album to put on the list, but if you had to pick one I think Still Life could be one of the strongest ones.
3. Bon Iver - Bon Iver
I bet everyone who heard For Emma, Forever Ago fell completely for it. Now, the pressure must have been really hard for Justin Vernon to come up with a follow up to that. Honestly, I must say that he couldn´t have done a better job! I might even go so far as to say that Perth might be the single best song of the year.
4. Radiohead - Lotus Flower
With again another insane album Radiohead can proudly go to the next year. Besides, the video is pretty hilarious, wish I could dance like that!
5. James Blake - The Wilhelm Scream
Pretty much a must on any "the best of 2011" list.
6. Gym Class Heroes - Stereo Hearts
Eventhough the song isn´t as good as their older material I just had to put them on the list; I´m so psyched they got back together. Really looking forward to the gig!
7. Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
Their debut deserved a place on a top-10 of 2008 list without a doubt, and now on Helplessness Blues they´ve come back with a even better album.
8. Arctic Monkeys - Suck It And See
Ever since Everything People Say... came out, they´ve been permanently one of my favourite bands. Some people maybe wouldn´t include Suck It And See to the best albums of 2011, and ofcourse, it isn´t their best, but still it sounds pretty great to me!
9. Thurston Moore - Benediction
Thurston Moore has changed his noisy, shoegazing Jazzmasters to a acoustic guitar, and still made a masterpiece.
10. The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Belong
Last but not least, my absolute favourite of 2011, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. Their set on Flow was probably the best gig of my life.
